Decide your game plan
First of all, decide your beautiful-home game plan.
I recommend completing every cleaning step I describe, in each room, before moving on, so that when you leave it’s finished.
If you’re on a time crunch with guests coming over however, an alternative is to clean in tasks, e.g. dust all over first, then vacuum all over and so on.
Now, depending on the size of your home, you will definitely waste time moving between rooms doing this, which is why I wouldn’t recommend it.
But if you’re very short on time, you will at least get the cleaning essentials done and you won’t be caught out with untouched rooms.
Whichever way you do it though, it is important to do the steps in the order listed.
First things first
Begin by getting prepped, with all your cleaning materials ready. I keep one cleaning caddy in the kitchen under the sink and one in the bathroom and they’re fully stocked all the time.
For this cleaning routine, I use the following:
- A multi-surface spray cleaner
- Paper towel or cloths
- Antibacterial cleaning wipes
- A pair of microfiber dusting gloves
- Garbage bags
You will also need a bus tray and a laundry basket in addition. I recommend these two:

You can play whatever music you like, but something with high energy is the best. Not only do I find that I clean faster but it helps to keep track of time passing, which is key when you’re trying to clean your home as fast as possible.

Phase one: bedrooms, hallways, and living areas
Go to your first room and do the steps in order before moving on to clean the next room
Open windows to air the room out Declutter the room using LTT – this stands for laundry, trash, tray.Throw any dirty laundry into the basket, dispose of any trash in the garbage and empty small trash containers into there as well.
Then put any plates or cups on the tray to go to the kitchen. If you find any items that are not where they belong, put them to one side and take them when you leave the room.
As this is a room to room approach, you can either drop items back in their rightful place as you go around, or do this when you finish up. Next up is dusting. Start dusting with the highest surfaces in each room so that the dust falls downwards.
Dusting is my all-time most hated cleaning task but I use microfiber dusting gloves which are so much speedier and require no sprays or polishes.
Pick items up, dust over their surface, dust the surface under them and then put them back.
Keep antibacterial wipes with you for hard surfaces that can’t be dusted and also for cleaning dirty/sticky items like kids’ toys.
A telescopic duster is good for very high areas like ceilings so you don’t have to take the time to get any steps or ladders out.
Once you have completed all of these steps, move on to the next room in turn until all of the hallways, living areas, and bedrooms are done.
Phase two: bathroom and kitchen
The bathroom and kitchen are the only rooms in the house where I recommend cleaning between the two rooms as the secret for how to clean your house fast.
This is so that you can leave any spray cleaners to work for a few minutes whilst you get on with other tasks and cuts out scrubbing time.

Dishwasher Bag
My number one life changing cleaning hack, was to invest in this budget robotic vacuum-it seems excessive but I can’t stress enough just how much time this will save you
Phase 3: final touches
As the last push you can drop off any misplaced items you found whilst cleaning. Then just light some scented candles or an oil burner for a relaxing treat after all your hard work.
Note that this is by no means a deep clean. I would definitely clean the toilet separately when you have more time to spare. Cleaning the floors in the bathroom and kitchen more thoroughly is also a great idea.
Finally, nothing says ‘clean home’ to me like crisp, fresh bedsheets, so that’s also a must when time allows!
Now, you know how to clean your house fast. This cleaning routine might have sounded like a lot right now, but don’t feel overwhelmed.
You’ll end up cleaning very fast using this per room method. Practice is also key, so make a habit to do this regularly and you’ll be a speed cleaning pro in no time!
