10 Lightweight Disney Trip Backpack Essentials

Vacations at Disney are the best, but packing for one is a fine art. During the day, there’s no room for excess baggage so make sure you only take the essentials in your bag or backpack – and they better be lightweight too.

Here’s our rundown of the items that make the cut.

If like us you are saving for your first (or next) Disney trip, below are some of our articles that will help you get there sooner:

  1. Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad cooling towel
As much as we love the sunshine state, the heat in Walt Disney World is sometimes a struggle, especially in the middle of the day. The Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad is always in our bags for when it gets too much.

If you haven’t used one of these before, the Chilly Pad is a lightweight ‘towel’ that you run underwater to transform into a cooling pad. Even though you wet it to activate, it still feels dry to the touch and the effect lasts for hours. They’re reusable and washable: When the cooling effect wears off, you simply wet it again. Plus, they weigh next to nothing in your bag so they’re easy to carry around all day. Get one here.

  2. Water
You’ll get through a lot of water in the Florida heat, which quickly gets expensive if you’re relying on buying bottles inside the parks. You can get free water from many food service areas and water fountains, however, anyone who’s tried it will tell you it has a ‘unique’ taste that’s not very pleasant.

To make sure we have some every day, we usually either buy a large pack of bottles to keep in our hotel room, or even better, order online and have it delivered straight to the hotel. Disney properties will let you receive deliveries ahead of your arrival for free but check with your accommodation to see if there are any charges before you order.

You’re probably thinking though; taking multiple bottles in your bag isn’t very lightweight (at least until you drink them all). So this year we’re going to try a tip we learned from the Disney Tourist Blog, (always a goldmine of Disney tips), and buy a water-filter bottle like this one.

Fill it up from the water fountains and see if it makes the free park water taste better.

  3. Hand sanitizer
These sanitizers are great for when you can’t wash your hands, especially when you’re eating on the move. I like these ones that clip onto anything.

  5. Autograph book and pen
Meeting your favorite characters is one of the best things about Walt Disney World and I try to collect autographs in a new book for every trip.

We love the super cute personalized ones from Flamingo Road Journals. For pens, you can’t beat a retractable sharpie. which is easy for your new friends to sign with.

  7. Caffeine supplement
Although you think you’ll just grab a coffee when you need to, sometimes it’s hard to justify standing in a long line for a caffeine fix when you could be enjoying the rest of the park.

We always pack a supplement in our bags and like these ones as they only contain 100mg of caffeine – half the strength of many standard caffeine supplements – so you have more control over how much you take.
